Health Degrees Demand High Scores: 70% Require 10+

Madrid – Accessing health-related degrees in Spain is becoming increasingly competitive, with 70% of these programs requiring a grade of 10 or higher for admission. This surge in required scores reflects a growing number of university applicants vying for a limited number of public university places.

The increased competition is driven by a combination of factors, including a rise in the number of students pursuing higher education and a relative stagnation in the availability of public university slots. This situation leaves many students uncertain about their chances, despite achieving strong grades.

Bárbara Font, an 18-year-old student, exemplifies this concern. Despite achieving an average grade of 8.2 during her Baccalaureate (high school diploma), she is unsure if this will be sufficient to secure a place in her desired Psychology program. Her experience highlights the pressure faced by prospective students navigating the current admissions landscape.

Experts attribute the high cut-off marks to the increased demand and limited capacity within public universities. The trend suggests that what was previously considered a good grade – a 'notable' – is now perceived as insufficient for entry into highly sought-after health professions. The situation is prompting discussions about the need for adjustments to the university admissions system to ensure equitable access for all qualified applicants.
